MDS DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES and QUALIFICATIONS

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the RAI Process: Direct the accurate, timely completion and submission of all Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) and Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments.
  • Drive Strategic Reimbursement: Manage ARD scheduling and ensure clinical documentation fully substantiates PDPM coding for optimized, compliant Medicare and Medicaid billing.
  • Chair the IDT: Champion the interdisciplinary care planning process, aligning the nursing, therapy, and dietary teams to support resident care goals.
  • Wisconsin State Compliance: Monitor facility Case Mix Index (CMI) and quality measures to maintain strict alignment with federal CMS and Wisconsin DHS Chapter DHS 132 regulations.
  • Empower Through Education: Train and mentor floor nurses and clinical staff on precise charting habits and evolving coding updates.

What Maplewood is Looking For

  • Licensure: Active, unencumbered Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of dedicated MDS coordination experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF).
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of MDS 3.0, PDPM structures, and the CMS RAI User Manual.
  • Leadership Traits: Superior organizational skills, high attention to detail, and a naturally collaborative communication style.

Certifications: RAC-CT or RAC-CTA credentials through AAPACN are strongly preferred (or willingness to obtain within 1 year).
